Bye Bye Birdie!

We were getting everyone ready for bed the other night, and Conleigh came in and announced that Alex had colored on the wall behind the couch. Take a deep breath. I went and found the Mr. Clean thingy. It worked. For the most part, the crayon came off. As I was standing up, something whizzed by. I ducked and then came around the corner towards our kitchen table. Whizzz! A sweet little bird had found its way inside our house. Peter had had the door open for a few minutes to bring something inside, and I guess that is when this poor, scared bird flew inside. Needless to say, the kids were out of control excited. I wish I had caught Campbell on video. She was squealing with excitement. We did get some video, but it is shaky and only the audio is worth hearing. I'll skip adding it because I've tried 3 times and I keep getting an error. Back to the story... The bird flew back & forth between our living room and dining area a couple of times, then Peter started turning off the lights and instructed the kids to hold their arms up in the air to try to keep the bird from flying another direction. Of course, he really just wanted to give them a job, so they would stand still. Conleigh is only 42 inches tall, so her height wasn't really going to prevent the bird from flying wherever it wanted to go. After about 5 minutes, the bird found the ledge of our back door and flew out into the night. Conleigh waved goodbye and said, "bye bye birdie".

A trip to the movie theatre

Alex experienced his first movie in a theatre today. He was apprehensive about it because he just didn't know what to expect. He wanted to go to Blockbuster, pick out a Scooby-Doo movie and come home and watch it. Conleigh tried to educate him on movie theatre's (because she has so much experience - I think she & I saw Curious George at least a year ago, and that is her only time to a theatre).
We went to see Veggietales: The Pirates who Don't do Anything. We went with our neighbors and good friends Brittiany & Colin (2 1/2). As soon as we walked in and Alex saw the concessions, he was sold!
Overall, everyone did really well. Brittiany and I kept them busy with popcorn, drinks, suckers and M&Ms. :)
The movie was really cute too.

Happy Hearts & Flowers Day!

We had a great day. Daddy was gone before the house got going this morning. I had cups filled with jelly beans and chocolate kisses and stickers for each of the children. They were so excited to get a Valentine. Conleigh has learned all about Valentines Day at school and she was pretty specific that you give candy and flowers to the people you love.
Peter brought home a dozen red roses for me and a heart shaped chocolates box. I was surprised to get the chocolate because we have been trying hard to eat better and exercise. Again, he said Conleigh really thought it was important to give candy.
I gave Peter a gift card to buy beer brewing supplies -- pretty romantic, eh?
Tonight Peter made chocolate chip pancakes for dinner. I suggested we make it a tradition to have pancakes on Valentines Day. I don't recall hearing any seconds to that motion.
Conleigh tried out a gymnastics class today. She loved it, and was very good at it. Surprisingly, the coach said she just needs to master the cartwheel a little more and she can move on to the next level class.

Haircuts by Conleigh

So, we've been growing Campbell's bangs out so they would be part of her cute bob. She has the Victoria Beckham hairdo with the back a little shorter than the sides. It is so cute and she gets a lot of compliments. We've been putting her hair in a barette on the side for months.
Well, her sister got a hold of her today with scissors. No barrette needed anymore! It looks like she has a barrette in since there is no hair on her forehead, but...
she just doesn't have that hair anymore, and one side is now shorter than the other.
Conleigh said, "It was in her eyes mommy." Needless to say, I think Conleigh gets the message now that you don't cut people's hair.
We had an appointment for pictures scheduled for tomorrow. I cancelled. I guess we'll go to the hair salon instead. It could be a lot worse and thankfully hair grows back.

"What are we going to do when we get home?"

The eternal question. Conleigh & Alex are always wondering what we can do when we get home, and I'm always thinking about what we can do that doesn't involve Scooby-Doo on the television.
Last Friday, I actually had an answer. "We are going to do a Valentine craft." They were both very excited with that answer. It was a fun afternoon. Campbell napped, and Conleigh and Alex put on their painting attire and painted some hearts. They loved wiping the extra paint on their shirts, and of course, they loved mixing all the paint colors together. I painted a wreath pink that I had bought before Christmas with a Valentine wreath in mind. Once everything had dryed, we glued everything on. It turned out pretty cute. I love it b/c they painted the hearts. Conleigh helped with the various other jewels, and it is now adorning our back door (which if you know our house, is used a lot more than the front door).
