A HUG Necklace

My kids make sure they get a kiss & a hug whenever we are parting ways...at school, bed time, the gym. They'll come running back saying, "don't forget a kiss & a hug." Last night I was done tucking Conleigh in and she stood up and said, the traditional "kiss and a hug". She hugged my neck and kept hanging on. She told me it was a hug necklace. I just loved it.

Today is the first Thursday that Conleigh is not going to preschool. She goes each morning of the week. Alex goes on MWF, and Campbell on MW (which are the days that I work). I spoke with the Director earlier this week and asked if Conleigh may be able to drop Thursday. I was happy that she was agreeable. It was wonderful to get up this morning and have nowhere to be and not have to rush around getting everyone dressed and out the door. Conleigh has worn her Halloween costume (kitty cat) around all morning and Alex wore his Spiderman costume for awhile. It's been great not having anything on the calendar.

A visit from Grandma & Bepaw Spence

We had a great visit from Grandma & Bepaw this weekend. Conleigh & Alex showed off their rooms and room decor. Peter made a fabulous salmon dinner. We introduced them to edamame - I don't think they were sold, and then we all ate jello for dessert. On Sunday, we went down to Zilker park. Both Grandma & Bepaw had swam in Barton Springs Pool many moons ago. For Grandma it was a field trip in school, and for Bepaw, he showed us where he and his buds used to lay out on the hillside during college. We also rode the train through the park and the kids loved playing on the playground. We finished the outing by eating outside at Shady Grove. It was a beautiful January Day.
Thanks for coming to Austin to see us. We love you!

Spiderman!

Spidey is IN THE HOUSE! Our Alex loves spiderman. He has at least 4 sets of pajamas that have spiderman, 2 posters in his room, a scooter, and his house shoes that Granny gave him for Christmas. Tonight he was jammin' to the toy piano. He said, "let's rock & roll..." and he was a dancing fool. Enjoy his moves. HINT: to hear the music, press pause on the purple music list at the bottom of the page, and turn up your speakers.

Kids say the Sweetest Things

Peter said a week or so ago, "I made a blog for you." I said, "what am I going to write in a blog?"

Tonight at dinner he said you could write all the great things that our kids say.

Peter's car cratered today. He had it towed and we went to pick him up. I told the kids on the way that Daddy's car broke down. Sweet Conleigh said, "I have a lot of money in my piggy bank that talks. I can get that out and help daddy buy a new car like the one he has already." I told her that was so sweet of her to say, and she responded with "I just want to make daddy happy."

I love these moments because lately she & Alex have plenty of not-so-sweet moments with each other. They are so mean to each other. Granted, Alex is pretty sensative and needs to toughen up, but they are after each other all day long.

Peter went out with a friend tonight, so I got the kids to bed. Alex came out after about 15 minutes for some water. Before he went back to his room, he said I want to kiss you. He came and kissed my arm and then turned his cheek to me for a kiss. I am so thankful for my wonderful children.
