East bound and south...

South Carolina here I come!
Can't wait to see these beautiful ladies on Friday. This is the only picture I could find from our last reunion four years ago. Four friends and I from my grad school years at USC are having our third reunion this weekend. It has been 20 years since we all met at the U of S Carolina.

I fly out tomorrow early morning to Augusta, Georgia, where my friend Meghan will pick me up and we'll trip it to Columbia for a little reminiscing at the University of South Carolina!

Peter will be on sick kid duty. Alex has been home for two days and tomorrow doesn't look to be different. He has tonsilitis. How random.

The Phantom Strikes

In the past, we have been boo'ed!
This year, tonight, just a few minutes ago, the phantom struck our house.

The doorbell rang,rang, rang, rang!
It's dark outside.
When I asked who was there, no one answered.
The phantom...

Campbell and I opened the door a few minutes later.
There it was...candy and treats

with a note from the Phantom. We must be a blessing in the same way to
two friends in the next 24 hours.

Thursday

I got my haircut this morning. It was pouring down rain when I walked out with my new hair-do, so I turned around and spent some cash at the mall. I bought some new boots and I love them. Can't wait to have a reason to wear them.  I got a few new shirts too in preparation for my trip to South Caroliny next week.

I got about four loads of laundry washed and folded today. That is a huge accomplishment since I cannot stand to fold clothes.

When I picked up Campbell from school, we came right home and took care of her reading homework. We did that so that when we went back to pick up Conleigh (after art club) and Alex (after Lego robotics), we could go to try a jazz class for Campbell.  She looked like she was having a good time, but afterwards she said she wants to be more that a jazz girl. I told her they were learning technique. I asked her if she just wanted them to turn on music so she could dance? Answer: Yes.

After dance, the kids chose 'the mall' as our dinner destination.  Nice mom.  The girls and I chose Panda Express and Alex had Chic Fil A.  Healthy all the way, yeah right.

Peter isn't quite home. He is busy with the ACL Music festival here in Austin this weekend. He and I are going to go enjoy some live music on Saturday night.

Next up: kid bedtime and the veep debate. Go Paul Ryan!

I forgot to post this last week when Mark stopped by for a visit. Mark is all of the children's God father.

Brave Boy

Alex has endured the turning of the expander. Now he has endured the pulling of five teeth!  I couldn't believe how brave he was. Usually he is one to hold my hand tight, but they gave him enough sedation that he was barely holding my hand.  First, he got some oral meds, then we watied about an hour for that to kick in. Next gel was put all over his gums and then the shots!  The dentist was great. She didn't mention the word shot and he never knew he'd gotten major shots in his mouth.
Before
After
His teeth look like shark teeth. They were his canine's. Usually these teeth come out when I kid is 10'ish, but his were holding back the new teeth on either side of his front biggies.  I watched the Dr. take them out. Wowza! She said she was surprised I stood there watching. I'm just thankful that Alex was not in any pain.  As the numbness wore off, the boy was not happy!!

We stopped for ice cream and popscicles on the way home, and the day went off without a hitch.

The tooth fairy hit quite a few hitches though.  To put it simply, the tooth fairy should have taken the teeth. She made the unwise decision to leave the 'cool' looking teeth for Alex to keep. She said they were too heavy.  Alex didn't buy it at all. It was not pretty.

First Date

October 1, 1998
First date

Fourteen years, marriage and three children later,
there is no one I'd rather be with on the roller coaster of life.
I love you more than ever, Peter Hardin.
